Once Upon a Mattress

July 4th-7th, 2019

at The Cambridge Arts Theatre

If you thought you knew the story of 'The Princess and the Pea,' you're in for a walloping surprise! Did you know, for instance, that Princess Winifred swam the moat to reach Princess Dauntless the Drab? Or that Lady Larken's love for Sir Harry provided a very compelling reason that she reach the bridal altar post haste? Or, in fact, it wasn't a pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on a familiar classic provides for some side-splitting shenanigans. Chances are, you'll never look at fairytales quite the same way again.

Music by Mary Rodgers
Lyrics by Marshall Barer
Book by Marshall Barer, Dean Fuller, Jay Thompson

Directed by Corina Dunn
Musical Direction by James Wu

You can recognize a lady by her elegant air; but a genuine princess is exceedingly rare...
