Meet the brains behind our summer 2019 musical, ONCE UPON A MATTRESS, Corina Dunn! Corina has directed other P&P shows such as 'The Importance of Being Earnest (2018/2019);' 'Bram Stoker's Dracula (2017/2018);' 'The Canterville Ghost (2016/2017)' and 'Anne of Green Gables (2015/2016.)' * Some answers may have been edited for length and/or clarity.
QUESTION 1: WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE FAIRYTALE?
CORINA: "Beauty and the Beast." Hands down. But, I've already directed that one!
QUESTION 2: WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO DIRECT 'ONCE UPON A MATTRESS?'
CORINA: All the musicals that we've done so far have been pretty heavy, so I was looking for something light-hearted with fun characters and great music. 'Once Upon a Mattress' has all that and more!
QUESTION 3: WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE SONG OR SCENE TO CHOREOGRAPH?
CORINA: We haven't finished all the choreography yet, so this is a tricky one. 'Many Moons Ago' (our kids chorus is adorable!) and 'The Minstrel, the Jester and I' are two of my favourites. But, I have the feeling that 'Shy,' 'Normandy' and 'Very Soft Shoes' will be in the running!
QUESTION 4: WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE SONG IN 'ONCE UPON A MATTRESS?' CORINA: Gonna have to go with 'Normandy!' QUESTION 5: WHICH CHARACTER IN 'ONCE UPON A MATTRESS' DO YOU RELATE TO MOST?
CORINA: Wow. Tough question. I can relate to aspects of all the characters, but I think I mostly relate to the Minstrel, He just wants to save the day and make everyone happy. QUESTION 6: DO YOU PREFER DIRECTING COMEDIES OR DRAMAS? CORINA: Both. I love making people laugh but I also love meaty dramas that I can sink my teeth into. QUESTION 7: WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED FOR THE AUDIENCE TO SEE? CORINA: My exceptional cast!! I am so proud of all of them!
