• Learn and perform choral arrangements of musical theatre repertoire

• Develop vocal technique, including breath control, tone, and diction

•  Practice harmony singing and blending as an ensemble

• Strengthen musicianship through sight-singing and ear training

• Explore character-driven singing and storytelling through music

• Record vocal tracks for use in productions (when needed)

• Serve as live or offstage pit singers in select musical theatre productions

• Collaborate with casts, directors, and musicians in a professional setting.

• Receive coaching in musical theatre styles, phrasing, and interpretation

• Gain real-world performance experience in a supportive, high-energy environment

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

PENNY SONGS is open for vocalists ages 14+

Penny & Pound Theatre Productions is a safe and inclusive youth and young adult production company with a mission to offer the best in community arts and youth theatre education in the Region. We encourage full participation from performers identifying as members of the IBPOC community and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, as well as performers with disAbilities and those of all gender identities, social and economic backgrounds and beliefs. We are looking for enthusiastic performers with a keen knack for singing, acting, dancing or all three! No previous experience is necessary. All we ask is that all students enjoy creative challenges, are hardworking and have a love of the theatrical arts!

PRICING
PENNY SONGS has a membership fee of $80 for two terms.
Payments can be made in full on the first day of the program, OR a payment plan can be arranged.

TERM ONE will culminate in a choir performance in December 2025.
TERM TWO will culminate in a choir performance in June 2026.

PENNY SONGS members are also highly encouraged to take part in the following MainStage productions as pit singers.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

IS PRIOR CHORAL EXPERIENCE NECESSARY?
No prior experience is necessary. The program is designed to meet participants where they are and help them grow at their own pace, whether they are new to choral work or have previous experience.

DO I HAVE TO AUDITION?
Nope! Everyone who registers will be included in the choir.

WHAT IF I WANT TO ACT IN A PENNY & POUND SHOW?
You still can! Choir members are given the choice of performing as pit singers or on-stage performers. 

WHAT HAPPENS IF I MISSES A REHEARSAL?
Consistent attendance is greatly encouraged, especially as rehearsals progress, but members can catch up with the help of instructors or peers.

DO I NEED TO PERFORM IN EVERY SHOW?
Although we would love for every choir member to participate in every production, we understand that real life takes precedence! Members are able to chose which performances they would like to take part in throughout the season.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
A water bottle, an electronic device to view sheet music, and a willingness to participate! Penny & Pound will provide members with all necessary music.
