ABOUT THE PROGRAM

For nearly a decade, Penny & Pound Theatre Productions has been a driving force in youth theatre education in Southwestern Ontario. Now, for the first time, we are pleased to present our HIGH SCHOOL INTENSIVE- an auditioned performance program designed specifically for young performers in Grades 9-12 who are looking to immerse themselves in the world of theatrical arts! Over the course of nine months, students will experience all aspects of theatre production while working towards performing a full-scale musical. Guided by experienced theatre veterans and bi-monthly guests, students are encouraged to take risks and grow in both their art and their confidence!
All students who audition will take part in this exciting project!

STUDENTS WILL...

  • Learn the fundamentals of musical theatre and performance including theatre terminology, script analysis, character creation, vocal techniques (spoken and musical), choreography, staging and improvisation

  • Experience all aspects of theatrical production including costuming, set and prop creation, and theatre tech

  • Learn and receive mentorship from experienced industry professionals

  • Earn high school volunteer hours

  • Grow in confidence and skill in a safe and encouraging environment dedicated to their comfort and well-being

  • Create lifelong friendships

All we ask is that all students enjoy creative challenges, are hardworking and have a love of the theatrical arts!

WHAT TO EXPECT

At Penny & Pound, it is our goal to make all performers feel as comfortable and confident as possible during the audition process. Below is a detailed account of what your audition will look like.

  • Please arrive at the venue 10-15 minutes prior to your scheduled audition slot. You will be greeted by a volunteer who will ask that you fill in an audition form and/or a photo release form. They will be welcome to answer any questions you might have about the company or show process. Please ensure that a parent or guardian arrives with you to fill out the registration form.

  • When your audition time comes, you will be asked to enter the audition room where you will be greeted by THE CREATIVE TEAM. This team will consist of THE DIRECTOR, STAGE MANAGER, CHOREOGRAPHER and MUSICAL DIRECTOR.

  • You will be asked to present your chosen song. In addition, you may be asked to complete a short movement routine provided by the CHOREOGRAPHER. Do not worry if you're not a dancer! These routines are designed to test a performer's comfort-level when it comes to choreography.

  • After the audition, you will be welcome to ask THE CREATIVE TEAM any questions you might have about the company, vision or process.

  • In total, all auditions should take less than 10 minutes to complete.
